As part of my Master of Social Work degree I completed a clinical practicum in a public mental health and substance use clinic, supporting clients living with anxiety, depression, addictions, and trauma. For ten years I was the executive director of a non-profit community service agency providing social work and counselling services to women in crisis and to male and female survivors of abuse, including many former foster children and residential school survivors.
I have completed specialized training focussing on the treatment of trauma and PTSD. I work extensively with veterans and military members.
I have co-facilitated intensive therapy groups for men and women. I have created and facilitated dozens of support groups, psychoeducational, wellness, and self care groups and workshops. I was a Mental Health First Aid instructor for nine years, educating front line workers and healthcare staff.
As a social worker I have provided parenting support to families with children and worked supporting persons with (dis)Abilities. I have provided advocacy and connection with community resources.
Since 2013 I have taught in the Social Service Worker program at North Island College as a sessional faculty member. I have provided supervision to social work students at the BSW and MSW levels.
